FLAME-RETARDANT BINDER COMPRISING VINYLIDENE HALIDE-BIS(HYDROCARBYL) VINYL PHOSPHONATE POLYMER LATICES BLENDED ANTIMONY OXIDE

Polymer latices comprising at least one halogencontaining .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated monomer, at least one bis(hydrocarbyl)vinyl phosphate and at least one comonomer such as an alkyl acrylate or a N-methylol acrylamide, blended with antimony oxide are excellent flame retardant additives for flammable materials. The compositions of the present invention show a marked reduction in the after-glow phenomenon associated with compositions containing antimony oxide.
