Linear potentiometer system with digital output - has slide with optical devices and frame with coded optical grid

A digital potentiometer hs a direct digital signal readout. It avoids the use of analogue to digital converter and of analogue potentiometer with inherent errors. The digital potentiometer has a frame (1) with clear and dark zones. The zones constitute a coded linear grid. It also has a slide (2) with light-emitting diodes and phototransistors. The components of the slide (2) are connected by wires (5) to an electronic circuit board (6). A switch (10) is used to indicate when the slide (7) is at the end of travel. A push lock (7) is used to hold the slide (2) in a set position. The push lock (7) is pressed to release the slide (2) so that it may be moved to another selected position.
