Mfr. of sheets and other mouldings involves the use of condensable resins, esp. wood-chips coated with urea-formaldehyde glue, which are extruded or scattered onto a base, with addn. of thermoplastics and shaped and adhesively bonded, with application of heat and pressure. The glue-coated materials are compouned with a granulate comprising finely ground fibres onto which mineral fillers glue-coated with thermoplastics, have been added or deposited. Outstandingly stable adhesion of the component wood-chips to one another is obtd. The prods. are resistant to humidity, thus allowing them to be used in outdoor applications. The fibres are non-combustible and high-melting. In an example, cellulose fibres mixed with TiO2, adhesively bonded to one another with PVC, are specified. The granulate portion is >=60% of the total compsn. used. The materials may be press moulded at 165 degrees C under 20 kp/cm2 for 5 mins.
|
