A method of protecting the interior of metallised transparent articles, particularly plastics articles such as water taps consists of melting the protective material, bringing it into contact with the metallised surface and maintaining it in contact until the required thickness of protective coating is obtained by the hardening of the mass. This substance can be poured in until this thickness is obtained, then the remaining molten material discharged. In the case of plastics articles, where the heat conductivity is low, the protective mass is heated to very little above its melting temperature.
