H2S, SO2, HCN, NOx, HF and similar noxious gaseous materials, are removed from gas streams by contacting with porous, absorptive, solid bodies which have been treated with caustic soda soln. and/or carboxylic acids, esp. tribasic carboyxlic acids, such as citric acid and its salts (esp. calcium citrate). Porous inflated perlite impregnated with caustic soda and coated with iron oxide dust can be used for removal of H2S By chemisorption from a gas stream. Perlite impregnated with, for example, citric acid or a soln. of its sodium or calcium salt can also be used for removal of SO2 from waste gases and in a further process stage the recovery of an SO2 enriched gas. Improved sorption and enhanced purificn. of contaminated gas streams is attained. The process can be effected in a fluidised bed reactor and may be almost continuous.
|
