Dental drills are retained ready for use in a casing with an opening for each drill (2), behind which is a guide (17) through which the supply line (5) passes to a winding drum (6, 8) at the rear. This drum is rotated by a wheel (18) mounted on the end of a drive motor (9). Inside the guide is a holder (4) into which the boldy of the drill fits, which is moved forwards into a position ready for use. The holder is pulled outwards by a cord (13) anchored to the rear which passes around a return pulley (16) then around a winding wheel (15) mounted on the spindle of a second drive motor (14). When retracted, each drill is retained in a locked position.
