<p>Flame treatment appts. is for thermochemical deseaming of steel ingots, billets or slabs which have a practically constant thickness (d) but are curved in a longitudinal direction. A prestressed scanning device is pressed against one side of the slab, and creates a signal used to adjust the height of a flame deseaming burner located on the other side of the slab. The scanner pref. uses a roller mounted on the end of a lever and running along the underside of the slab, whereas the burner is located above the slab. The lever is pressed upwards by a spring or a pneumatic-, hydraulic- or counterweight drive, and is fixed on a pivot shaft using a rotary potentiometer or digital angle transmitter to provide signal adjusting burner height. The burner and scanner are pref. located in a hood using water jets to remove slag and fumes. The burner can be continuously adjusted so it is always at the optimum height above the slab.</p> |
