[Also in Division B3] A self-threading nut for assembly on to a tapered unthreaded stud has an elongated aperture with a major axis 2 and minor axis 3, the wall of the aperture having minor unthreaded portions 24 at the intersections with the axis 2, and major threaded portions 22 at the intersections with the axis 3 with a plurality of common thread segments 26 each having a root which intersects the crest of the segment in proximity to the intersection of the axis 2 with the aperture wall, and a progressively diminishing depth in both directions from a maximum, at approximately the centre of the segment to zero at each end. |
