Permanent connection between a cap and a tube is produced by (a) swaging a portion of the tube to form an abutment for the cap (disc), which is inserted into the tube; and then (b) passing through an orifice to form a hermetic bond between the tube and the inserted disc. Pref. the insertion of the disc into the tube takes place before the swaging of the tube, which is then swaged and passed through the orifice. When the connection is made in the latter manner the force of passing the tube through the orifice is smaller than that required for the formation of swaging.
