<p>A positive potential is applied to the thyristor gate for its ignition, and after tripping a negative potential is applied to switch it off. A series resistor (11) with a parallel capacitor (12) is connected to the thyristor (5) gate (6) to make it suitable for operation in a DC system. The resistor resistance (R) and capacitor capacitance (C) are such that the R-C time constant is large enough to make the negative pulse peak appearing at the thyristor gate long enough to extinguish the thyristor (5). This peak appears when the thyristor is switched off at the resistor (11) terminal away from thyristor (5) when this point is connected to a more negative potential.</p> |
