The modular construction system is used for machine tools for lathes. The rectangular stand (10) accommodates a machining unit (14) or a workpiece carrier with connection points on three side faces for connection points on three side faces for connection to a unit (18, 20) for holding a workpiece carrier or machining unit or for connection of a further basic unit. The unit has support feet (40) which can be connected to different points of the basic unit and adjusted to level the machine. The fastening flanges of the feet have fastenin holes for connection in conjunction with the basic unit or workpiece holding or machining unit.
