1521598 Monitoring air for the presence of tritiated H 2 O vapour ATOMIC ENERGY OF CANADA Ltd 7 Oct 1976 [11 Dec 1975] 41719/76 Heading G1B Air is montiored for the presence of tritiated water vapour in an apparatus comprising a gasliquid contractor 2 with sample air inlet 3 and liquid inlet 4; an optional gas liquid separator 5 with a gas outlet 6; a stripper 7, to strip dissolved radio-active noble gases and noble gas fission products, with a purging gas inlet 8 and outlet 9 and a (3-radiation detector 10. In operation sample air to be monitored for the presence of tritiated water vapour is passed via inlet 3 to exhanger 1. A liquid e.g. water, mixable with tritiated water is passed into the exchanger 1 at inlet 4 and contacted with the air to effect transfer of its water vapour content to the liquid. The air-liquid mixture passed into the optional gas-liquid separating means 5 and air exits at outlet 6. The liquid containing tritiated water and the radio-active noble gases usually accompanying tritiated water vapour in the air sample are passed to the stripper 7 and treated with a purge gas via inlet 8 which strips any radio-active noble gases dissolved in the liquid. The purge gas and noble gases exit at outlet 6 and the stripped liquid is passed to the #-detector 10 where its #-radiation is determined e.g. by a scintillation counter, as a measure of the presence of tritiated water vapour in the air sample.
|
