Formation of joint between pipe and coupling sleeve - by filling interspace with compsn. contg. epoxy! resin, hardened under pipe working pressure

A joint is formed between a pipe end and coupling sleeve by placing the sleeve around the end, closing the ends of the clearance space, filling the space with hardenable compsn. and maintaining compsn. pressure greater than atmospheric until set. The compsn. is pref. epoxy resin with carborumdum powder filler and the setting pressure is the intended working pressure of the pipe. The sleeve pref. has a helical screw thread in its bore and a resistive heating wire is located in the thread root to heat the injected compsn. The pipe end is pref. roughened with a rotary chipping hammer before joining.
