<p>1521571 Analogue-to-digital conversion M NADLER 9 March 1976 [2 April 1975] 09389/76 Heading H3H In analogue-to-digital conversion the input analogue signal e s is mixed with various fractions of a reference signal e m representing the maximum value of e s to provide signals 4-11, Fig. 2a, the minimum value of various pairs of these signals is found, Fig. 2b, and the maximum value of various groups of the minimum values are found to derive signals 13-16 which are compared with respective fractions of e m , Fig. 2c, to generate a binary Gray code 30-33. Operational amplifiers, Fig. 7, may be used instead of the mixer shown in Fig. 2a. A plurality of such converters may be cascaded, Fig. 8 (not shown) the input signal 16 to the least significant comparator 23 of one converter being amplified, e.g. x8, and applied as e s to the next converter. In this case, to reduce errors, the logic deriving signal 16 may include negative feedback operational amplifiers, Fig. 10 (not shown).</p> |
