<p>1521844 Excavating mechanism ROBBINS CORP 9 April 1976 [11 April 1975] 14614/76 Heading E1F An excavating mechanism for use in a tunnelling machine comprises a cutting tool 52 and a support structure for the tool. The structure has a tool-mounting head 14 and three double-acting, hydraulically actuated piston cylinder units forming three variable length support and drive legs. Each unit is pivotally connected at its forward end by means 34, 36, 38 to the head 14. The units diverge rearwardly from the head and at their rear ends are mounted for universal pivotal movement on a tunnelling machine. With this mechanism, when the lengths of the units are held constant, the tool is held rigid by the units, and, by selective operation of the units, the cutting tool can be advanced towards and traversed across the face in any direction.</p> |
