A machine for attaching a pouring spout in the wall of a container comprises means for feeding step by step a strip M of partially formed blanks, a fixed die H and a reciprocable die J which between them simultaneously bend a blank to form a body portion a and side wings b for a spout Z and punch the body portions to form prongs C at the end of one feed step of the strip, and a ram I, mounted on and movable with the die J, which simultaneously with the shaping of a spout between the dies H, J, severs the preceding formed blank from the strip and inserts in the container wall, which is backed by an anvil D having recesses to clinch the prongs C. The moving parts are actuated from a drive shaft Q having a cam P which reciprocates the die J and ram I and a cam V whichoscillates a lever U carrying dogs 17 for moving the blank strip M. A micro-switch initiates operation when a container is placed in position around the anvil D. A stripper plate 5 is biased away from the fixed die by a leaf spring. |
