A filter drum 13 comprises at each end an annular ring 17, fitted adjacent the periphery of the open drum end, bearing on either the external or internal (Fig. 3, not shown) periphery of a bearing component 16, either or both of ring 17 and component 16 having one or more annular grooves 18 to which pressurized fluid is supplied through pipe 19, to lubricate and exclude solid matter from the bearing. Fig. 1 shows a compartment 10 of a bottle cleaning machine, from which dirty lye is filtered through the mesh of rotating drum 13, flowing out of the drum ends to reservoir compartments 11. Bearing components 16 are fixed to walls 12 of the machine. The fluid pumped to the bearings (Fig. 2 or Fig. 3, not shown) may be filtered lye or another fluid, and flows from bearing clearance 20 partly into drum 13, partly into compartment 10. |
