<p>Pump for a fluid, using a rotating drum contg. at least one cylinder with a piston connected to an external holder. The drum and holder have ends (a) which are in contact with a stationary supporting surface (b) during drum rotation. At least one end (a) consists of a steel surface in which a bronze bearing layer is cast to make a metallurgical bond with the steel. The bronze contains max. 0.15% phosphorus, and no Fe-P eutectic is present in the bond between steel and bronze. The bronze crystals pref. grow along axes at 90 degrees to steel surface na), the steel being resistant to grain boundary penetration. To make the bronze layer, a steel blank is pref. located on or in a chilled holder and the bronze is cast on the blank to achieve directional solidification from the steel. Used. e.g. to form bearing surfaces in a hydraulic pump which can also be used as a hydraulic motor. A heavy duty bronze bearing layer is provided between ends (a) and surface (b).</p> |
