1,266,986. Excavators. ERNST MENZI AG. 16 Sept., 1969 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 45550/ 69. Heading E1F. [Also in Division F2] To minimise movement of an excavator over ground when the excavator is digging, at least one ground-engaging wheel of the or each undriven pair of wheels at one end of the chassis frame of the excavator is locked against rotation by a toothed wheel 1 coupled to the wheel being engaged by a pawl 6 pivotally mounted on the chassis. The wheel 1, which is rigidly secured to the ground wheel, may be either an internally or an externally toothed annular plate, the teeth being defined by flat surfaces having, between adjacent surfaces, included angles of about 90‹. Each tooth is symmetrical about a radius of the plate. The pawl is a rectangular, spring-loaded flat plate that, dependent on the form of its pivotal support on the chassis may also function as a ratchet pawl to allow of rotation of the wheel 1 in one or the other of the possible directions of rotation of the wheel. |
