PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as a blowing agent, refrigerant, detergent, etc., in high yield and efficiently by fluorinating a tetrahydrohalogenopropane with HF in the presence of a catalyst comprising at least one of niobium, tantalum and antimony halide. CONSTITUTION:A dihalogenomethylene group-containing tetrahydrohalogenopropane shown by formula I (n is 0<=-<=1) is fluorinated with hydrogen fluoride by using a catalyst comprising at least one of niobium, tantalum and antimony as a catalyst to give a difluoromethylene group- containing tetrahydrofluoropropane shown by formula II (n is 2<=-<=4) and a dihydrofluoropropane. The fluorination reaction is preferably carried out under normal pressure or in a liquid phase under pressure at 0-200 deg.C. 1,2,2, 3-tetrachloropropane or 1,1,2,2-tetrachloropropane is preferably used as the starting compound. |
