<p>Benzylisoquinolines of formula (I) and their acid-addition salts are new (where R and R' are 3-5C alkyl when R = R'; or R and R' are 1-5C alkyl when R and R' are different; provided that neither r nor R' is Me when the other is Et). Five cpds (R=Pri, R'=Et; R=Et, R'=Pri; R=Pri, R'=Me; R=Pri; R'=Pri; and R=Me, R'=Pri) are specifically clamed. (I) are hypotensive and spasmolytic agents free of the cardiac side-effects, associated with papaverine. A typical cpd., 1(-3,4-diethoxybenzyl)-6,7-di-isopropoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoqui- noline, was prepd. in 66% yield by reaction of 1-(3,4-diethoxybenzyl)-6,7-diisopropoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline hydrochloride with NaBH4 in methanol.</p> |
