The gear box can have reversal and at least one forward speed. At least one cylindrical roller (3) can be displaced perpendicularly to the motor shaft (6). The drive is controlled by a jockey device (5) comprising a fork (4) fitted with a bearing (14) carrying the central jockey gear. When roller surfaces engage without slipping on the drive surface of the driven unit, motion may be reversed or speed changed according to which surfaces have been put into contact. Transmission is by at least one jockey roller engaging the surface of an annular groove (9, 17) in a disc keyed to the drive shaft. The jockey roller also engages within a second annular groove (10) in the drive plate (2) which is keyed to the driven unit (8).
