<p>The trailer chassis uses T-section instead of I-section girders for the longitudinal members. These can be joined together at intervals by sheet metal struts, whose height is the same as the web of the girder, and with their top edges bent over at right angles to form angle sections with flanges of unequal width. There can also be sheet metal components with their lower edges bent over, mounted at intervals on the girders to support the side portions of the load platform. The entire load platform can be formed by heavy gauge sheet metal plates welded together, and also enclosed by heavy gauge sheet metal fixing together all the supports on the girders. All weld seams can be such as to form girders and sheet metal into a rigid non-distorting structure.</p> |
