A textile web is creped by passage through a nip between two moving surfaces, one of which is elastic. One of the surfaces has recess so that as the webs relaxes on passage through the nip it expands into the cavities to form regions of the film which are thicker and of lower density. The method may be used with paper, cardboard, knitted, woven or non-woven fabrics. Conventional creping processes merely deform the film and corrugated. The present process produces a new creping effect because of the expansion to produce thicker low density regions. |
