An ultrasonic device for non-destructive quality control of material is used for measuring and recording the penetration depth of defects such as blisters, tears, and foreign objects, etc. A direct voltage output signal proportional to the exact depth of the defect is produced. Ultrasonic waves are transmitted to, and reflected from the object and received by a piezoelectric transducer connected to an amplifier circuit. The circuit contains a time selector and a convertor from time intervals to a voltage which is applied to a recorder device storage block. The probe pulse generator and time selector are synchronised. The convertor is a sawtooth generator and high duty cycle pulse generator.
