In a builder motion for a draw twisting machine having switching-means controlling the direction in which a traverse-rail is driven, the switching means comprises two differential mechanisms each having a first input member oscillated synchronously with the movement of the rail, a second input member responsive to build-adjusting mechanism, and a rotary output member, the output member in one of the differentials acting to reverse the drive at one end of the traverse stroke, and the output member in the other differential acting to reverse the drive at the other end of the stroke. The ring-rails, one at each side of the machine are reciprocated by a piston 12, Fig. 1, working in a cylinder under the control of a reversing slide valve 64. To this end, the rails are carried by racks reciprocated by pinions rotating one way or the other according to the oscillations of shafts 21, 23 produced by pinions 20, 22, these being themselves oscillated by racks 14, is moving with the piston. The pinion 22 is geared to two interconnected gears 32, 33, Fig. 3 which are the input members of two differentials through which the reversing valve 64 is actuated. Each differential also comprises a second input member (40, Fig. 4, not shown) and an output member (39) in one with an arm 43 or 57, Fig. 3, each having a pin 44 or 58. As the output members revolve, these pins engage in turn abutments 59 or 60 to rock one way or the other a lever 61. This has a bowl 62 alternately engaging collars 65, 66 on the actuating stem of the valve 64. Spring-loaded toggle-links 68, 69 ensure quick reversals of the valve. In each differential, the second input member (40) is connected to a drum (42) through which a factor corresponding to the build it is desired to impose on the package, is fed into the differential. To this end the drums are each connected, for rotation in opposite directions, by a steel tape to the profiled end of a pivoted cam-lever 47 or 52 of which the other end carries a follower engaging a cam 72 or 73. The cams are rotated by wheels engaging worms on a shaft driven from a reducing gear box 81. To change the build, the cams may be changed for others, while the ratio transmitted in the box 81 can be varied.</p> |
