Vehicle wheel mudguard flap - has reinforcement ribs to direct water flow inwards and below the bodywork

The mudguard flap (1) has a vertical outer reinforcement rib (3) facing the wheel and three horizontal ribs (2) joining to it running in a slight curve downwards and towards the inner edge at a slant which becomes less steep approaching the inner edge. The ribs may be fitted separately to the flap or moulded with it. The ribs prevent water spray onto the sides of the vehicle and into the paths of other vehicles. The outer rib also prevents the flexible flap bending excessively from vertical as the airstream and water push it back.
