Voltage controller for generators in motor vehicles - has forward polarised diode in control line which controls battery charging voltage

The controlle has at least one switch for raising, or lowering, charging voltage of a battery connected to the generator. It can be mechanical (two-step controller) or electronic. At least one voltage source, in certain cases a diode in forward direction, is inserted in the control wire (D +/61 gen., D+/61 controller). It is so connected that the generator raised (charging) voltage satisfied the formula: UGen = UD + UR, where UGen is the generator output voltage, UD the voltage drop in the diode, or its threshold voltage in forward direction at about 0.7V, and UR is the output voltage set by the controller when the diode is not operative.
