Reaction system for strongly exothermic reactions - esp. methanisation using adiabatic and isothermal reactors in series

Strongly exothermic reactions which are catalytically accelerated are carried out by using an adiabatic reaction coupled in series with an isothermal reactor. The two reactors can be placed before or after each other. One scheme involves splitting the incoming feed between the reactors virtually in series. However, the outlet from the isothermal reactor is then fed through the adiabatic reactor. The heat released in the isothermal reactor is used to generate steam. For use in strongly exothermic reactions such as the hydrogenation of CO and CO2. These reactions are virtually uncontrollable in the straight adiabatic reactor while the isothermal reactor requires carefully conditioned steam to achieve favourable reaction products. The system described gives controllable reaction rates without unnecessary complication.
