An intermediate plate (4) to support the boot on the ski for long distance skiing, is supported by a base plate (1) attached by screws (2) to the top face of the ski, so that it can tilt. The intermediate plate has an inverted U-shaped plate (6) underneath which fits between the upturned arms (6') of the base plate, with a spindle passing through, acting as a hinge. The front edge (7) is turned down to rest on the surface of the ski. An alternative design has an inverted U-shaped plate underneath with longer arms (6) so that it can be fastened directly to the sides of the ski by hinge pins, but without the intermediate plate.
