1520588 High-frequency lamination of thermoplastic resin with fabric COMPO INDUSTRIES Inc 14 June 1976 [7 July 1975] 24565/76 Heading B5N In the bonding of a thermoplastic resin applique 14 to a permeable woven fabric 16 by applying heat and pressure from the platens of a high-frequency press 20 so as to fuse the resin and cause it to penetrate the fabric, the applique is disposed in a matching cavity in a silicone rubber mould 10 and overlaid with a porous release sheet 24 and an open-cell absorbent sheet 28 whereby vapours generated during pressing may be trapped and prevented from condensing on the platens. The applique may be of p.v.c. and may include a blowing agent, and may completely penetrate the fabric. The mould cavities may be shaped to provide a surface grain or imitation stitching on the applique. The bonded assembly may be cooled by cooling conductors 22. The assembly to be pressed may be curved about a foam strip placed on the lower platen so as to prevent air entrapment. |
