摘要 1520983 Envelope making apparatus PAKWELL CORP 22 March 1976 [21 April 1975] 11508/76 Heading BSD An envelope making apparatus comprises a first apparatus portion which includes a frame 15, a first conveyer system driven by a first motor 21 and an arrangement for transferring envelope blanks transported on the first conveyer system into structures F comprising a body closed along three sides and having an open flap along a fourth side, and a second apparatus portion which includes a frame 140, a second conveyer system driven by a second motor (270), Fig. 3 (not shown) and an applicator for applying deposits of gum to the body and flap of each envelope structure transported by the second conveyer system, the apparatus frames 15, 140 being detachably connectable to one another and an arrangement being provided for co-ordinating the operation of the first and second conveyer systems. As described the apparatus comprises an elongate section 10 along which blanks are conveyed over a lower outgoing section (22), Fig. 2 (not shown) and an upper return section 24. Associated with the return section 24 are longitudinal and transverse blank scoring blades (38, 52), Fig. 2 (not shown), a roller (62), Fig. 2 (not shown) for applying adhesive to a side flap of the blank, and a plough share folder 70 for folding side flops of the blank into overlying relationship. From the return conveyer section 24 the thus folded and adhered blanks are transferred on to a first portion 100 of a laterally extending conveyer section 95. Associated with this first conveyer portion 100 is a roller 130 for applying adhesive to an end flap of the blank and a plough share folder 136 for folding over said adhesively coated end flap to complete the formation of said structure F. Associated with a second conveyer portion 106 of the laterally extending conveyer section 95 is the arrangement, including a driven applicator roller 204, for depositing gum on to the body and open flap. The gumming arrangement further comprises a gum bath 230 and driven pick-up, doctor and transfer rolls 236, 238 and 240. A back-up roller 208 is provided below the applicator roller. In the event of a stoppage in the envelope structure feed, the back-up roller 208 and the transfer roll 240 are automatically moved out of contact with the applicator roller 204 while the pick-up, doctor and transfer rolls are driven by an independant motor (310), Fig. 3 (not shown). A further conveyer comprising co-operating straps 396 and a belt 374 receives the gummed envelopes from inverting discs 339 which are supplied by the second conveyer portion 106, and conveys the envelopes in overlapping relation as the gum dries to another conveyer (410), Fig. 5 (not shown), which delivers the envelopes to the off-bearing end 420 of the apparatus adjacent to the infeed end of the apparatus. The second conveyer portion 106, the gumming arrangement and said further and other conveyers 396, 374, (410) are mounted on the frame 140 which is supported on castors 144 and is detachably connected to the frame 15 for the remainder of the apparatus.
