1521094 Tubular heat exchangers for cooling gases SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 27 Aug 1975 35350/75 Headings F4S and F4A A waste-heat boiler for cooling high temperature gas or generating steam from partial conduction processes comprises a normally upright cylindrical shell 1 closed at each end and having a coaxial tube 2 to which cooling water is supplied at its lower end through a pipe 16 and into an annular cooling space 3 housing helically wound pipes 4, 5 for high temperature gas so as to form steam, the unconverted water overflowing into the open upper ends of recirculation channels 12. The channels are formed by flat walls 13, 14 extending outwardly from the tube 2 and bounded by a wall 15. The helical pipes 4, 5 are formed as concentric sets and are connected at their upper ends to straight pipe sections 6, 7 symmetrically arranged relative to the shell axis and leading to lower gas outlets 17. The pipe sets are supported respectively by members 8, 9 by rods 10 from a yoke 11 to compensate for thermal expansion. Water entrained in the wet steam is separated therefrom in a drum (not shown) and the separated water is passed to the inner tube 2. |
