Headings B8C and B8T Sterile liquid, e.g. an effervescent beverage, is bottled by apparatus comprising a plant 3 to produce plastics &c. bottles, a pneumatic conveyer 9, and a bottle filling and capping machine 11, the filled bottles then being put into cartons 26. The bottles, produced at a high temperature and therefore sterile, are moved by sterilized suction or compressed air along the conveyer 9. The bottles may be rinsed in sterilized air, carbon dioxide or nitrogen before and/or after conveying but before filling, using a rinsing station 6, detailed in Fig. 3, supplied with suction at 21, low pressure gas at 24, and compressed gas at 19 to eject the bottle to a machine 11 comprising stations for filling 41, Fig. 4, and capping 42. Figs. 6 and 8 show alternative arrangements for the evacuator 48, pre-rinser 49 (Fig. 6 only), filler 50, capping station 51, and apparatus 52 to transfer the bottles to a carton 26. The bottles move ten abreast between the filling, closing &c. stations by intermittent motion. The pre-rinsing and filling apparatus 6 and 11 may be enclosed in a sterile atmosphere.</p> |
