The novel benzenesulphonamide and benzamide derivatives of the general formula: <IMAGE> in which R1 represents a halogen atom or the group NR2R3; R2 and R3, which can be identical or different, represent hydrogen or straight-chain or branched (C1-C6)-alkyl, or where R2 and R3, together with the nitrogen atom, can form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring which can contain a further heteroatom from the group O, N or S, or where R2 represents hydrogen and R3 represents the group R4CO or R4SO2, in which R4 has the meaning hydrogen or (C1-4)-alkyl; R5 represents hydrogen or one or more halogen atoms or hydroxy- or (C1-4)-alkoxy groups; X represents CH2, O or the group NR6, in which NR6 has the meaning hydrogen or (C1-4)-alkyl, and Y represents SO2NH2 or CONH2, and the acid addition salts with organic or inorganic acids thereof are suitable for the treatment of cardiovascular disorders, such as hypertension.
