<p>An appts. for drying and recooling starch or other powder used in confectionery operates by treating the powder in an air stream. The drier comprises a completely closed housing connected to an exhauster system to maintain sub-atmospheric pressure inside the housing. This partial vacuum draws heated (or cooled) air upwards through a perforated floor, while th powder flows across this floor. Pref., the powder is introduced by a cell wheel and extracted by a second cell wheel, and is conveyed by a scraper conveyor across the perforated floor. The upper part of the housing is pref. of such large vol. that the air flow is considerably reduced by comparison with that through the small apertures of the floor, so that only a very small amount of dust is extracted. Savings in energy by comparison with previous air drying and cooling systems are provided. The powder is loose and does not form clumps.</p> |
