The transport vehicle is for free movement on conveyor tracks, and partic. for use as a workpiece carrier for friction roller conveyors. A braking device is incorporated in the vehicle (10), actuated by an object in its path, typically a shoe or brake support (45, 46) extensible against lateral support rails (11, 12) on each side. The supports can be used to lift the vehicle partly clear of the friction rollers, by acting against the tops of the rails. There can be a stirrup with thrust rods extending beyond the vehicle in the travel direction, to actuate the brakes, typically on striking another article on the track.
