Bag filter for the removal of dust from gases is equipped with bags which are open at the bottom and closed at the top by a disc with a central stub shaft. Two elastic pulling elements are wrapped halfway around a pulley on the shaft from a fixed end, and the other end of each is attached in opposite directions to a tie rod. The latter can be reciprocated by a drive. This twisting motion followed by or combined with a backflushing flow of air restores the filtering quality of the filter cloth very efficiently (150-200%). The hydraulic resistance is greatly reduced and the filter capacity increased. The maintenance required is negligible and the filter is functionally reliable.
