An adaptor sleeve (3) is adjusted and locked in an axially central position in a clamping device (5) by means of a microscope (7). The holder (2) which is movable axially at right angles in the "x" and "y" direction is introduced into the adapter sleeve together with the optical fibre (1) fixed in it. The optical fibre is fed with light. Its photoconductive core is visible in the microscope. The holder together with its optical fibre is brought into a selectable position and fixed in the adapter sleeve. The axial centre of the microscope can be determined by a reticule or it can be determined by concentric rings.
