The appts. restarts operation after a program interruption in a computer controlled machine tool, in which program sets contain outline sections of a workpiece to be machined. The tool path to the workpiece is calculated from these values, taking into account the tool correction values. When a tool is changed and its dimensions altered, the new correction value is calculated during a forward move following a back run, and the corrected path is calculated up to a selected point. Then the tool is moved to the selected point through calculated transitional steps.
