1446518 Cooling blown film WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 29 Oct 1974 [15 Nov 1973] 46766/74 Headings B5A and B5B A post cooling ring for blown thermoplastics film 4 comprises an air cooling ring surrounding the film, the ling being formed from a plurality of blow pipes 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP> which are pivotally interconnected in pairs at their adjacent ends and are hinged at their outer ends, about axes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the blow pipe, to holding elements 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP> that are radially adjustable with respect to the tube axis, the hinge axes on the holding elements being disposed so that the blow pipes form a uniform polygon as viewed longitudinally of the tube, and the length of the individual blow pipes being selected so that, with the radially outermost setting of the holding elements, the pipes extend to an obtuse angled zig-zag line circumferentially of the tube. The film 4 is formed by extrusion of a melt from the blowhead 2 having a cooling ring 3. The calibrating apparatus 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>11</SP> comprises calibrating elements 6<SP>1</SP> and 6<SP>11</SP> and has mounted thereon holders 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP> to which the blow pipes 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP> are connected. Each pair of blow pipes is interconnected by universal ball joints 9. Blower 10 supplies air through the U- shaped hose 11 the annular distributing channel 12 and interconnecting hoses 13. The cooled film may be flattened at take off after pleating at 16. |
