1519627 Selective printing SILONICS Inc 21 July 1975 [19 July 1974] 30491/75 Heading B6F An ink jet assembly has a plate 11 with recesses 14 and an overall flexible member 18 which define chambers each having a droplet orifice 12 and an associated piezoelectric crystal 21-27. Droplets can thus be ejected on demand from selected ones of the orifices 12. The chambers defined by recesses 14 and member 18 are connected to a common chamber 16. Chamber 16 is connected via a valve assembly (exploded in Fig: 1) to reservoir 5. The assembly includes strain gauges 36, 37 which detect movement of a beam 33 resting on diaphragm 31. The gauges via a circuit, Fig. 3 (not shown) control piezoelectric crystal 41 to open/close ball valve 38 and so maintain pressure in the chamber 16 within a predetermined range. In series with each of the crystals 21-27 is a variable resistor which forms with it an R-C circuit. Adjustment of the individual resistors permits matching of the drop velocity for all the nozzles.
