Suitable forms of starting material are pyrogenic silica, silica gel, and crystalline modifications of silica. Suitable amino-alcohols include mono-, di-, and tri-ethanolamines and p-amino phenol. The products of the invention can be used as selective adsorbents, thickeners for lubricants and adhesives, fillers in polymers, non-swelling ion-exchangers, cross-linking agents in epoxy resins, and liquid-phase carriers in gas-chromatography.
