Polymeric compositions comprise a polymer of a hydroxyl-containing vinylically unsaturated carboxylic ester, a volatilizable active ingredient such as a fragrance oil and a solubilizing agent which is compatible with the polymer and which is more compatible with the active ingredient than is the polymer, whereby the active ingredient is maintained at least partly in solution in the composition. The polymeric compositions permit controlled release of the volatilizable active ingredient into a medium in which they perform a useful function.
