A galvanic cell e.g. a fuel cell comprises a porous sintered electrode made by sintering a powder mixture comprising Fe, Ni, Co, Ag, W or Mo and 0.1-10% by weight of boron. The metal powder particle size is 1-50 microns and the boron 0.5-50 microns. The mixture may also contain compounds of Cr, Mo, W, Ti, Al, Th, Co or Pt which produce the corresponding oxides on sintering in an amount equivalent to a maximum of 2% metal. Up to 25% by weight of ammonium carbonate or bicarbonate may also be included. The compacted mixture is sintered at 500 DEG -1500 DEG C. in hydrogen or vacuum and may be used in the form of pellets or grains as well as compacts. The boron may be partially dissolved out of the electrode prior to its use in a fuel cell. In the fuel cell potassium hydroxide may be used as electrolyte with alcohol or hydrazine dissolved in the electrolyte. |
