ELECTROLYTIC CELL FOR ELECTROLYSIS OF SEA WATER

The cell comprises a vertical passage with a seawater inlet at the bottom and an effluent outlet at the top. Several parallel, flat plate anodes (I) and cathodes (II) are positioned vertically in the passage. The lower ends of (I) have side projections extending out of the plate. The upper ends of (II) have side projections extending out the passage to a top electric conductor plate. (II) and (I) are inter mixed alternately apart from electrical connections (I) and (II) are spaced from the passage walls. Also apart from electrical connections the exterior contous of each cathode superimposes a projected area on its adjacent (I) which leaves a clear margin of anode all around the projected area. Used for the electrolysis of seawater. The structure of the electrodes is such that increased agitation of liq. and gas ensures that water never remains stagnant on cathode surfaces. This ensures that obstructive precipitates are not deposited on the cathode so that the cells efficiency remains unimpaired for long periods, e.g. /-6 months.
