发明名称 PRODUCTION OF IMPREGNATED CARBON MATERIAL
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain an impregnated carbon material having high density and high strength in a short time by impregnating a low-density carbon material with pitch, allowing a porous high polymer material film of specific characteristics to adhere on the surface to closely cover the above carbon material, making the above pitch infusible, and then burning the above material. CONSTITUTION:A low-density carbon material (e.g. carbon fiber reinforced carbon composite) is impregnated with pitch. Subsequently, a porous film of high polymer material (e.g. a sheet made of polytetrafluoroethylene) having many pores of a pore diameter at which gas can pass and liquid can hardly pass through the pores and also having a melting point higher than the infusible pitch temp. is allowed to adhere on the whole surface to closely cover the above carbon material. After heating treatment is applied to the above to make the impregnated pitch infusible, the above material is burnt in the above state to undergo carbonization or graphitization, by which the high-density impregnated carbon material can be obtained. By this method, the effusion of the pitch formed into liquid state at the time of being made infusible can be prevented owing to the above coating with the porous high polymer material film, and further, gases, such as oxygen, necessary to make the pitch infusible freely go in and out through the pores.
