<p>1492210 Screw conveyers BIRD MACHINE CO Inc 8 Dec 1975 [16 Dec 1974] 50244/75 Heading B8A [Also in Divisions B1-B2] A hard-surfaced solids-discharge screw conveyer for a solid or perforate bowl of a centrifuge comprises a helical metal blade 32 on one of the radially disposed side surfaces of which is mounted a plurality of wear-resisting segments 34, mating parts 50 and 36 on the opposed surfaces of the segments and blade respectively being slidably interengaged by sliding the segments generally radially outwardly of the blade surface to prevent radial outward and axial relative movements of the blade and segments. The parts 36 are constituted by wedge-shaped metal pieces which are plug-welded as at 40 to the blade 32 to define dovetail slots which are wider at their radially inner ends. The segments 34 are formed of moulded ceramic material and their parts 50 consist of underside wedgeshaped projections which engage tightly in the slots between the metal pieces 36 under centrifugal force when the screw conveyer is rotating. The parts of adjacent segments forwardly of the projections 50 are of different shapes. Thus the right-hand segment in Fig. 4 has radially inwardly converging sides and the left-hand segment have parallel sides, so that the sides of adjacent segments abut when mounted. Pins 54 are welded to the blade 32 in abutting relation with the radially inner ends of the segments to prevent them from sliding out when rotation of the screw conveyer is discontinued. When wear necessitates replacement of a segment its associated pin is first clipped off and the segment is tapped radially inwardly until it slides out from between adjacent segments.</p> |
