Dampened material, e.g. compressed cakes of pigment, is extruded through rows of orifices 6 in a trough 2 by pressure exerted on the material as a rib 3 on an oscillating drum 1 is brought first towards one side of a fixed rib 5 and then towards the other. Drum 1 may be driven mechanically or hydraulically, directly or via a chain drive, but as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 (not reproduced), an electric motor (8) is directly coupled to drum 1 and is reversed by cam actuation of switches (9). In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), two drums are located in the same trough. The extruded material may be fed on to a conveyer to be dried thereon or be conveyed to a drier. The extrudate may be granulated using a cutting or mincing machine. |
