1446014 Laminated building panel CROWN LYNN POTTERIES Ltd and SAWYER INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 July 1973 [17 July 1972] 33804/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division D2] A laminated building panel comprises a base layer containing 60 to 95% by weight of expanded perlite particles, 5 to 40% by weight of fibrous material, and a binding amount up to 30% by weight of a binder and a facing board of a material different from the base layer and fastened to the base layer by a glue, cement or adhesive. The base layer may be faced on one or both sides by asbestos cement, hardboard, plaster board, plywood, or metal. The ratio by weight of the fibre to the perlite in the base layer may be <SP>1</SP>/ 3 to <SP>1</SP>/ 7 , and the perlite particles preferably range in size from 30 to 100 mesh. The fibrous material preferably contains fibres of a maximum length of ¢ inch, suitable fibres being newsprint fibre, glass wool, glass fibre, asbestos, bagasse and straw. The binder may be a bitumastic binder, sodium silicate, lignin, dextrin or starch. The base layer may be formed from an aqueous slurry. The edges of the panel may be provided with a suitable jointing system, and structural members may be incorporated within the panels or at the panel edges. The panel is said to have a good fire resistance, good structural properties and good thermal and acoustic insulating properties. |
